Name: Garrett Elwood

Garrett is the current President and prior to that served as Vice-President of Ardwood Civic Association. He has lived in Lower Merion for over 35 years and has called Ardmore home for nearly a decade. Garrett lives on Linwood Ave with his wife, three kids and Dog. Volunteering has been a part of Garrett’s life since childhood when he was a Boy Scout in Bala Troop One.  Other volunteer activities include currently serving on the Board of HOW Charities, Den leader for Cub Scout Pack 247. He founded an animal welfare non-profit called Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, Philly PAWS, VP of Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Team, Philadelphia Mayor’s Animal Advisory Committee, President of Friends of Pretzel Park, PHS’s Parks Steering Committee, Board member of the Manayunk Development Corporation and Director of Economic Development, volunteer firefighter (10+ years) Union Fire Association (UFA), UFA Board of Directors, LMT Firefighter Relief Association Board. Giving back to the community is important to Garrett and he looks forward to the opportunity to serve Ardmore.

Name: Valerie Holliday

Profession: Environmental Consultant, Professional Geologist, Principal Scientist at GeoLogos, LLC

Valerie was recently appointed to the board and has successfully served as Committee Chair for the “Love Your Neighbor” Food Drive and Noise Ordinance Committee Chair, She is currently working on the bylaws committee. Valerie has lived on the Main Line since 1993 and raised her two children in Berwyn. She and her husband downsized to their unit at the Arbors at Athens condominium in 2017 and consider Ardmore their “forever home,” because Ardmore’s walkability, diversity, amenities, friendly people and positive vibe are simply the best! Other volunteering experience includes work with the Chester County Antiques Show, the Chester County History Center, Winterthur Museum, and Penn Museum’s Center for Analysis of Archaeological Materials (CAAM). Valerie cares deeply about the community’s environment and quality of life, and looks forward to helping Ardwood Civic grow and succeed.

Name: Branlyn (Brandy) DeRosa
Resident Since: 2015
Profession: Psychologist in Oncology at CHOP, Clinical Assistant Professor at Penn School of Medicine

Brandy is currently the Vice President and has served on several committees. Before moving here from Philly in 2015, Brandy lived in many great areas, including Columbia, MD, Chapel Hill, NC and Gainesville, Florida. She came to Ardmore in search the right place to raise our two boys. Brandy loves Ardmore’s walkability, proximity to Linwood and South Ardmore Parks, its friendly neighbors, excellent school district, access to the city,  and cultural and economic diversity. She is passionate about bringing neighbors together for fun and a common purpose, whether that’s building community, beautifying our spaces, learning from each other, or promoting an environment for kids and adults to thrive.

Name: Doug Friese

Profession: Client Service Strategy Manager at J.P. Morgan

Doug Friese is Ardwood's Treasurer and a recent addition to the Ardmore community. He’s serving on several committees including membership and Schauffle Plaza Design and served on the Ardmore Master Plan Committee. After graduating from Temple University, Doug joined JPMorgan working in Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, and London before moving to Ardmore. He cherishes Ardmore for its walkability, downtown areas, and proximity to Philadelphia. Doug lives with his wife Britt and cat Oslo.

Name: Tom Korman
Resident Since: 1989
Profession: Retired book sales dept chair

Tom and his wife Ann moved to Ardmore in 1989. They chose Ardmore because of its affordability, access to great public schools, and ease of travel to Philadelphia and New York City. In addition, they admired its walkability to grocery stores, local pubs and restaurants, Ardmore library, and two movie theaters. At the time there was a theater in the Wynnewood Shopping center, where Rally House is now located, and on Lancaster Avenue where Tropicraft Patio Furniture is located. Access to the public swimming pools and South Ardmore Park, and more recently Linwood Park, were also a delight. More importantly, they were pleased to discover a group of neighbors that shared community interests and, in some cases, became lifelong friends. Over these past 36 years Tom has seen Ardmore change exponentially, but still retain its walkability, parks, locally owned restaurants and access to public transportation. As with most towns experiencing growth in the 21st century, Tom feels it is important for the community to adjust to the growing demands of the new residents. Tom sees the role of the Ardwood Civic as a vehicle to address the ongoing changes in the community while simultaneously maintaining Ardmore’s vibrant small-town appeal. 

Name: Jack Burns

As a devoted board member of the Ardmore Civic Association since 2019, I bring both passion and experience to our community initiatives. My roots in Ardmore run deep, having made this vibrant neighborhood my family's home since 2012, where I live with my husband, our three children, and our beloved dogs. Through my work at the local YMCA, I've fostered meaningful connections throughout our community while championing wellness and development programs for residents of all ages. I am particularly passionate about transforming our parks and playgrounds into thriving spaces and advocating for accessibility throughout Lower Merion. My vision is to preserve and enhance the natural beauty that makes our township special. I believe in the power of collaborative community action and welcome conversations with neighbors about how we can collectively build an even more welcoming and vibrant Ardmore for generations to come.

Name: Adrian Seltzer
Resident Since: 1986
Profession: Community Activist

Adrian cares about her community. She and her husband Steven raised their 2 children here, both of whom attended LMSD schools, and they have been Lower Merion residents for over 40 years.  She is co-founder of Stand Up 4 Lower Merion and Narberth which produces a weekly newsletter that informs its readers about township, school board, civic, and other meetings and events. She is also Vice President of NAACP Main Line branch, a Judge of Elections, serves on the voter services committee for the League of Women Voters of Lower Merion and Narberth, and runs the popular Main Line Restaurant Reviews group on Facebook. She loves our neighborhood and wishes to inspire people to get involved civically so we can keep our community vibrant.

Name: Kate Cronin

Profession: Owner, Oakleaf Ecological

Kate Cronin is the owner of Oakleaf Ecological, a professional gardening service that focuses on stewardship practices to create beautiful, dynamic, and naturalistic spaces. Her work includes both residential and public spaces, and has been featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer for utilizing native garden design in small urban spaces. Prior to professional gardening, Kate worked as an educator, including at Riverbend Environmental Education Center and as a second grade teacher at Wissahickon Charter School, where she used her love of nature to help students cultivate a school garden.

Kate enjoys volunteering in her community, and served as a board member for the Penn Wynne Library Association, fulfilling roles such as treasurer, president, and delegate to the Lower Merion Library System Board. Kate uses her passion for ecological gardening as co-chair for the development of the Penn Wynne Library Community Reading Garden. Kate holds a BS from Drexel University and a MEd from Saint Joseph’s University.

Name: Craig Timberlake (President Emeritus)
Profession: Project Manager at OnCourse Systems for Education

Craig relocated from Maine to the Main Line with his wife, Jill, and now-teenage boys, Benjamin and Andrew, in 2010, landing in Wayne for a year before settling in Ardmore. He loves our beautiful parks, vibrant downtown, easy walkability, and proximity to Philadelphia, which he truly believes is one of America's great cities. More than anything, though, he loves the people, many, many of whom he calls close friends. In his spare time, Craig enjoys taking his dog, Brady, for long walks around town, making music, woodworking, yoga, and a wide variety of other ever-evolving interests. As a multi-generational New Englander, Craig is a die-hard Patriots and Red Sox fan who thinks Philly winters are a cakewalk.

Profession: Associate Director of Communications and Creative Services at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. DVRPC

Elise Turner is the Associate Director of Communications and Creative Services at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. DVRPC is the metropolitan planning organization for the nine-county bi-state Greater Philadelphia region. Elise has over 20 years of experience in strategic communication in the public sector. At DVRPC, Elise leads public outreach campaigns and media relations, as well as internal communications for the organization. 

Elise holds a Masters in Public Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Villanova University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Susquehanna University. She has been a proud resident of Ardmore for 15 years. In her free time, she volunteers with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and in her community, and spends time with her husband and two sons.
